Discussion Area

Wondering what happened to VACRAO Discussion List?

As part of our new website design, we’ve gotten rid of the old email list and replaced it with a Discussion Area.

Now, all our discussions will be available on our site, searchable, archived, and best of all, you can subscribe to the RSS feed, and the content will come to you. We also offer a feed for content on our site, too.

Want the content to come to you?

Subscribe to our RSS feed.

What’s an RSS feed?

You may recognize the universal feed icon or these “chicklets” from your favorite Web sites, blogs and podcasts. These icons represent content in any format — text, audio or video — to which you can subscribe and read/watch/listen using a feed reader.

Why is This a Good Thing?

Technology evolution in online publishing has made it really easy to not only publish regular updates to web-based content, but also keep track of a large number of your favorite Web sites or blogs, without having to remember to check each site manually or clutter your email Inbox. You can now streamline your online experience by subscribing to specific content feeds and aggregating this information in one place to be read when you’re ready.

Bottom Line: Subscribing to feeds makes it possible to review a large amount of online content in a very short time.

How do I read feeds?

If you want to browse and subscribe to feeds, you have many choices. You can sign up with a free service, like Netvibes, Bloglines, NewsGator, etc., or you can read feeds in your favorite web browser. A handful of popular feed readers are listed in the sidebar on this page.

A typical interface for a feed reader will display your feeds and the number of new (unread) entries within each of those feeds. You can also organize your feeds into categories and even clip and save your favorite entries (with certain applications).

This seems too complicated. Can’t I just get email?

Once you get yourself a feed reader and add the feeds to all the places you like to go, you’ll never use the web the same way again! Feeds rock!

But, we do offer an email subscription service as well.

Get the VACRAO Discussion Area delivered via email

Everyone can view, but only Members can post

What that means is, everyone can see the discussions. But if you want to contribute, we need to know who you are. In order to know that, you have to register as a member on this site. It will take you about 30 seconds, tops! If you want to post, just click on the Registration link at the top of the Discussion Area page.

Go to the Discussion Area now.

Since the early 1970s, VACRAO has administered the Virginia Tour, a state-wide series of college fairs. We are committed to providing an opportunity for students to meet with college representatives in every region of the state.

While the individual fairs are organized by local school districts, VACRAO assists in scheduling, publicity, set-up, and the dissemination of program details to its membership. The School and College Relations Committee works closely with high school counselors and community colleges to coordinate mutually-convenient programs. The schedule of college day and night programs includes some 75 individual fairs a year, and blanket the state of Virginia over eight weeks from September to November. The result provides every student within the state the opportunity to attend a fair in his or her region, and every VACRAO member the ability to effectively recruit in Virginia. Participation in the Virginia Tour is one of the primary benefits of VACRAO membership.
